Privacy policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
In short: Zwoopmail is a mail app that runs on your Mac. It connects directly to your mail providers. We do not run a server that receives, stores or reads your mail, and we do not collect analytics about you.
Who we are
Zwoopmail is made by Nicolas Piron, Belgium. Contact: privacy@zwoopmail.com.
What stays on your Mac
- Your messages, attachments, contacts derived from your mail, search index, settings and drafts are stored locally on your Mac.
- Passwords and sign-in tokens (OAuth) are stored in an encrypted vault on your Mac.
- Spam and scam detection runs entirely on your Mac.
What leaves your Mac, and only when needed
- Your mail providers. Zwoopmail connects to the servers of the accounts you add (for example Gmail, Microsoft, iCloud or any IMAP/SMTP server) to download and send your mail.
- An AI provider, only if you choose one. AI features are optional. With Apple's on-device model, nothing leaves your Mac. If you connect a third-party provider (such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini) with your own API key, the text of the messages you ask about is sent to that provider to produce the answer, under that provider's terms. You can turn AI off at any time.
- Sender pictures, if enabled. To show a sender's picture, Zwoopmail may request a Gravatar image or a website icon for the sender's domain. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Phishing list. Zwoopmail downloads a public list of known phishing links (OpenPhish) and checks links on your Mac. Nothing about your mail is sent.
- Updates. Zwoopmail checks GitHub for new versions. This request contains the app version, nothing about you or your mail.
Google user data
When you sign in with Google, Zwoopmail requests access to your Gmail account so it can read, organize, search and send your mail from your Mac, as you instruct. This data is used only to provide these features to you, on your device. It is not transferred to us or to anyone else, except to an AI provider you have explicitly chosen and only for the messages you ask about. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train AI models.
Zwoopmail's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Microsoft and other providers
The same rules apply to Microsoft accounts and any other provider: your data is processed on your Mac to provide the app's features, and is not sent to us.
Website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
Your choices and rights
- You can remove an account in Settings at any time. Deleting the app and its data folder in your Library removes all local data.
- You can revoke Zwoopmail's access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions, and to Microsoft at account.live.com/consent/Manage.
- Under the GDPR you may ask us what personal data we hold about you. Because Zwoopmail has no server, we normally hold none, except emails you send to us.
Children
Zwoopmail is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
